ASMI’s Trip to Food and Hotel Asia 2022 and Singapore Food Festival
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) Southeast Asia representatives participated in Food and Hotel Asia 2022 and the Singapore Food Festival 2022 to strengthen relationships and explore new opportunities in the Southeast Asian market. Here’s a summary of their trip and highlights from the show.
ASMI participation at Food and Hotel Asia 2022
ASMI’s team attended Food and Hotel Asia 2022, which had been postponed for two years due to the pandemic. The Food and Hotel Asia (FHA) 2022 event served as a significant platform for the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) to expand the presence of Alaska seafood in Singapore. The booth showcased recipe books, species factsheets, and promotional materials, all aimed at promoting Alaska seafood. QR codes were provided to direct visitors to ASMI’s website, social media platforms, and the ASMI Marketplace.
Chef Elvin Chew and his team conducted food sampling at the booth, featuring a menu that highlighted Alaska seafood. The dishes included Slow-cooked Alaska Sockeye Salmon in Asian Spiced Fragrant Oil with Spicy Lemongrass Butter Sauce and Herb Cress, Steamed Alaska Halibut with Spring Onion and “Bentong” Ginger Pesto, and Pan-seared Alaska Black Cod with Traditional Assam Sauce and Puffed Rice. The samples received positive feedback, with visitors appreciating the chef’s cooking skills and the unique qualities of wild-caught Alaska seafood.
Singapore Food Festival 2022
ASMI collaborated with Brine Restaurant during the Singapore Food Festival 2022. Chef Christopher Tan showcased how Alaska seafood can be paired with local Singaporean flavors. The menu featured dishes such as Alaska Pacific Ocean Perch malai tikka, dhal makhani, jhal muri, and Alaska sockeye salmon mi cuit, black bean tom kha stew. This collaboration aimed to educate customers about sustainable foods and introduce Alaska seafood to the Singaporean market.
In addition to participating in Food and Hotel Asia 2022 and the Singapore Food Festival 2022, ASMI’s team also conducted market visits to local supermarkets in Singapore to assess the seafood landscape and explore potential partnerships.
ASMI’s participation in Food and Hotel Asia 2022 and collaboration with Brine Restaurant during the Singapore Food Festival 2022 provided valuable opportunities to expand the presence of Alaska seafood in Singapore. Through engaging booths, culinary collaborations, and meetings with key stakeholders, ASMI aimed to strengthen relationships, educate consumers about sustainable seafood choices, and explore new market opportunities in Southeast Asia. The trip was a step forward in promoting the quality, diversity, and sustainability of Alaska seafood in the vibrant Singaporean market.
